Rackspace is seeking a Web application developer for our proprietary webmail product. This team is responsible for Rackspace’s web-based email, calendar, and contacts as well as public RESTful API’s for client extensions to our services . These are high-volume applications that hundreds of thousands of business customers rely on.
Our webmail product is hosted in a linux environment which leverages open-source innovation to efficiently scale to over a billion requests monthly. As a web application developer you will have the opportunity to advance the product in a broad range of software development areas including service architecture, data management, and user interface design while learning from a team of other talented and experienced web application developers.
This position is located in Blacksburg, VA, a town in southwest Virginia nestled on a plateau between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains (and the home of Virginia Tech). You’ll be doing world-class development for a cloud computing leader in a beautiful location with a temperate climate and very little commute time. Relocation is available for this position.
Job Requirements
Candidate will have:
- 4+ years overall professional software development and/or engineering experience
- 2+ years of PHP, Python, C++, or similar language development experience in a linux environment
- 2+ years of Javascript development experience with user interfaces
- Experience with a relational database (preferably MySQL)
- Experience driving object-oriented design and applying software design patterns
- Engineering web development experience at multiple layers, from system services to user interfaces
- Experience developing high volume AJAX applications
- Experience using test-driven development approaches
- Experience in the development, deployment, and consumption of RESTful APIs
- Experience in a medium to large corporate environment
