Description: Dept of Agri & Cons Services is presently looking of Grain Inspector/Grader (Wage) right now, this vacancy will be placed in Virginia. The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' Division of Marketing has an exciting career opportunity for six part-time Grain Inspector/Graders in the Gr! ain Marketing Program. These positions inspect and officially certify grain product quality in accordance with USDA Standards of Grain for producers, shippers, processors, buyers, marketers, and other parties with a financial interest in the grain industry. The incumbents will perform sampling, weighing, stowage examination, grading and certification of domestic and export grain at export facilities in and around the Hampton Roads area. This position requires varied hours and the ability to work flexible schedules.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge in agricultural commodities or related field. Must demonstrate a proven ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) with a diverse clientele and work harmoniously with others, perform basic mathematical calculations, follow instructions, as well as a demonstrated ability to read, interpret, apply and explain compl! ex rules and regulations. This position is physically demandin! g and will require long periods of standing, walking, climbing/descending of up to 50 feet, reaching, and frequent bending/stooping. Inspections and grading functions involve visual and olfactory analysis, and therefore require a verifiable ability to distinguish colors and odors. The successful applicant will be required to maintain a valid Virginia Driver's License as well as a driving record that reflects a sense of responsibility for safety. Candidates must meet the required qualifications for a USDA/FGIS License for sampler, stowage examinations and weigher within 45 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of FGIS Rules and Regulations for grain grading is preferred, but not required as training will be provided. Experience in agricultural commodities, preferably in grain production is also preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge,! skills and abilities may substitute for this education and experience.

Special Requirements

Final candidate must successfully complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check. In accordance with State Code, incumbents of this position must complete a Statement of Economic Interests form upon hire and annually thereafter.

This is an hourly position limited to 1500 hours per year and does not include state benefits.
