The successful candidate will function as the manager of the Submarine Non-Nuclear Piping Engineering and Design department (E15) in support of VIRGINIA Class new construction, SSN688 and SSN21 Class Planning Yard, and submarine R&D projects. The candidate will have delegated technical decision making authority across these programs and will provide overall leadership for Submarine Piping Engineering. The department is comprised of 60 people in five technical groups, each led by an Engineering Manager 2. Responsibilities include all aspects of submarine non-propulsion piping systems on 3 classes of submarines. This position requires:

  • A solid technical foundation in piping design requirements, including familiarity with ASME codes.
  • Familiarity with unique submarine design requirements including SUBBSAFE, SSDR and DSS-SOC.
  • Familiarity with the design, fabrication and operation of submarine systems is preferred.

Basic Qualifications

This position requires a BS in Engineering from an ABET accredited school of engineering and 8 years or more of progressive technical and/or supervisory experience in research, engineering, and design or equivalent. A MS in Engineering and professional registration are preferable. An incumbent must have a comprehensive knowledge of engineering/design processes relating to ship systems, a comprehensive understanding of ship construction processes, understanding of company business management principles and have demonstrated the ability to manage and direct the work of others.
