We are currently recruiting for a Docket Clerk, to join our Litigations Department located in Norfolk, VA.
JOB SUMMARY:
This position functions under the direction and supervision of the operations manager and associate counsel. This position will generally be responsible for performing legal tasks in support of the Litigation Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Maintain document management system including the r eview of accounts through internal software progra! m, under attorney supervision;
- Prepare necessary dock! et sheets for attorneys in various states;
- Prepare cases for hearings and/or trials, under attorney supervision;
- Review and understand court websites in various states;
- Calendar management including the scheduling of court notices;
- Draft, write and answer various motions and correspondences (pre and post-hearing), under attorney supervision;
- Coordinate proper copying, filing, faxing and mailing as needed;
- Handle incoming telephone calls from attorneys and/or courts;
- Prepare correspondence to attorneys, debtors and courts, under attorney supervision;
- Communicate directly with attorneys and courts;
- Handle arrangements with hired counsel for appearances;
- Maintain and organize litigation materials;
- Work closely with process servers;
- Tracks document requests.
Excellent writing and communication skills. Good organizational skill! s. Must be proficient in Microsoft Windows, Office software, and capable of navigating the internet. Must have effective organizational, communication, time-management and interpersonal skills and high attention to detail. Must be able to work independently. Must be able to handle multiple projects and tasks while, simultaneously meeting deadlines. Knowledge of Fair Debt Collections and Practices Act (FDCPA) and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) is required. Must demonstrate ability to read and interpret legal documents, and understand legal terminology
Education and Experience:
HS Diploma or GED equivalent, Bachelors, 1-2 years related litigation experience in a law firm or municipal or state court as a legal assistant.
