You will have the opportunity to work in partnership with local criminal justic! e professionals as you provide Intensive Outpatient services f! or adults clients with histories of substance use disorders. Located within easy commuting distance from Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia, Prince William County is a diverse and dynamic community.
We are seeking qualified applicants for a longstanding High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) grant-funded position. Daytime hours and two weekday evenings per week are required. Services are provided at several PWC sites.
DUTIES SPECIFIC TO THIS POSITION:
Develops and implements risk management plans;
Develops and maintains an effective working relationships with the self help community;
Provides case management activities for client, including outreach, assessment, linkage to and coordination with other service providers, client advocacy, and aftercare treatment;
Provides! crisis intervention for clients, including those at high risk for suicide/homicide-under supervisory guidance, evaluates risk and potential need for hospitalization;
Provides a comprehensive array of clinical services for substance abusers and their families including family, group, and individual therapy, assessments and appropriate referrals for detoxification and residential rehabilitation, discharge planning, and aftercare services;
Provides consultation and technical assistance to families, professionals and community agencies regarding substance abuse, brief family systems treatment to clients with a wide range of presenting problems, group psychotherapy, Prepares and presents case presentations for clinical supervision;
Writes treatment plans and maintains records according to agency’s policies and procedures, prepares reports;
Conducts screening interviews and makes initial diagnosis and treatment recommendations;
Conducts and writes clinical ! evaluations for judicial system, schools, hospitals, residential rehabi! litation program;
Attends and participates in staff meetings and professional development activities;
REQUIREMENTS:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related behavioral science field and 1-2 years experience in a human services environment.
Note: A supervised internship in psychology, social work, counseling or a related behavioral science field, for a minimum period of nine (9) months, may be substituted for one year of experience.
PREFERENCES:
Experience providing substance abuse counseling in a group setting and case management services, Experience with treatment of criminal thinking and behavior and co-occurring disorders, Experience with applying evidence based practices, Experience with self help groups, Experience handling electronic case records, Prefer LPC, LCSW or license eligible within 2 years.

Child Protective Services Requirements: Effective 1999, mandated by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services 12VA35-105-400 rules and Regulations for Licensing Providers by the Department of Behavioral Health and Development Services related to Criminal Registry Checks, a search of the registry of founded complaints of child abuse and neglected maintained by the Department of Social Services.
ENTRY SALARY RANGE: $47,979.50 - $62,668.06

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs responsible professional work designed to provide a range of clinical services to mental health/mental retardation, substance abuse, developmental disability, and/or prevention services to clients. Work involves the assessment, intervention, counseling/therapy, treatment and rehabilitation of clients with varying degrees of problems requiring application of basic counseling knowledge and skills in working with clients and families.
Work is performed under close supervision of a Community Services Therapist III or IV. Work which is difficult or involves assessment and intervention in high-risk situations is performed under supervisory guidance. Incumbent exercises some degree of independence within established policies, procedures and professional guidelines. Work is reviewed through observations, conferences, reports, and results obtain! ed and may be performed in such diverse settings as residential program sites, psychosocial clubhouses, schools, client’s homes and/or outpatient clinics. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate personnel, students and volunteers.
TYPICAL TASKS:Under Regular On-going Clinical Supervision:
Develops and participates in consultation, education and primary prevention programs.
Develops and implements risk management plans;
Develops and maintains an effective working relationships with the self help community;
Provides case management activities for client, including outreach, assessment, linkage to and coordination with other service providers, client advocacy, and aftercare treatment;
Provides crisis intervention for clients, including those at high risk for suicide/homicide-under supervisory guidance, evaluates risk and potential need for hospitalization;
Provides emergency mental health and substance abuse treatment serv! ices during office hours, overnight, weekends and holidays and intake s! ervices which include management of telephone and walk-in request for information and services;
Provides psychotherapy, psychosocial rehabilitation, and residential services;
Provides assessment and intervention through the following treatment activities - individual, group and family therapy, management of a psychosocial rehabilitation component, education of clients through teaching activities of daily living, hospital discharge planning;
Provides a comprehensive array of clinical services for substance abusers and their families including family, group, and individual therapy, assessments and appropriate referrals for detoxification and residential rehabilitation, discharge planning, and aftercare services;
Provides consultation and technical assistance to families, professionals and community agencies regarding substance abuse, brief family systems treatment to clients with a wide range of presenting problems, group psychotherapy, comprehensive clinical ! services for mental retardation clients and consultation and technical assistance to families of mental health retardation clients;
Prepares and presents case presentations for clinical supervision;
Writes treatment plans and maintains records according to agency’s policies and procedures, prepares reports;
Conducts screening interviews and makes initial diagnosis and treatment recommendations;
Conducts workshops and training sessions designed for specialized populations with regard to primary prevention programming;
Conducts and writes clinical evaluations for judicial system, schools, hospitals, residential rehabilitation program, Department of Social Services, Social Security Administration, etc. and community education groups and programs;
Attends and participates in staff meetings and professional development activities;
May perform First Aid and Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
General ! knowledge of the philosophy, objectives, practices and techniques of cl! inical assessment and treatment, crisis intervention and case management and treatment and counseling related to family mental health, mental retardation, substance abuse, psychological rehabilitation and residential services; general knowledge of the adult seriously mentally ill client population; psychotropic medications; general knowledge of the theory and practice of family and group therapy and psychosocial rehabilitation; general knowledge of the psychological and behavioral effects of substance abuse; general knowledge of appropriate substance abuse specific treatment strategies for each state of recovery including intervention, psycho-educational programming, residential rehabilitation, family, group and individual therapy, as well as treatment for special populations; general knowledge of self help programs; general knowledge of the philosophy, objectives, practices, and techniques as related to mental health promotion, substance abuse prevention, and/or developmen! tal disability primary prevention programs; general knowledge of community of mental health model and related aspects of primary, secondary, tertiary prevention; general knowledge of brief family systems therapy; general knowledge of the theory and practice of group psychotherapy; general knowledge of intake techniques; some knowledge of crisis intervention, intake screening, evaluation techniques; some knowledge of teaching techniques, curriculum as related to primary prevention; some knowledge of the principles and practices of supervisory techniques; skill in motivating, developing, and directing people as they work; ability to conduct treatments sessions in a planned manner consistent with the theory of brief family systems treatment; ability to conduct clinical interviews with clients and families who present multiple problems and to assess client risk to self or others; ability to plan and lead work assignments of subordinate personnel, students and/or volunteers; abi! lity to prepare and maintain clinical records and reports according to ! agency’s policies and procedures; ability to implement appropriate techniques and methods for intervening in varying clinical situations and make objective clinical judgments; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; general knowledge of intake techniques; ability to rapidly assess client and community emergency/crisis needs and to develop plans to manage the crisis situation; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and colleagues under crisis circumstances; ability to provide the following treatments for - family and group psychotherapy, education of clients through teaching activities of daily living, clinical management of a psychosocial rehabilitation component, hospital discharge planning; ability to diagnose substance abuse disorders and related family symptomatology correctly and make effective and appropriate referrals; ability to plan, organize, assign, train and evaluate the work of subordinate personn! el.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related behavioral science field and 1-2 years experience in a related field of a specific assigned program.
Note: A supervised internship in psychology, social work, counseling or a related behavioral science field, for a minimum period of nine (9) months, may be substituted for one year of experience.
Special Requirements:
Must possess a valid driver’s license;
Must pass DMV record check;
Must pass TB test;
Certification in First Aid and Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation, as required;
Must be L.C.S.W., L.P.C., or Licensed Clinical Psychologist if program reimbursement or regulation stipulates;
Master’s Degree and Pre-screening certification may be necessary as program requirements stipulate;
