The George Mason University, Mason Enterprise Center is recruiting an Assistant Director of the Mason Small Business Development Center ( SBDC ) in Fairfax, Va. Responsibilities include managing the center?s operations, providing technical assistance to small businesses, developing and implementing project plans, coordinating business counseling programs, and managing the volunteer network.
Detailed Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee counseling and services to clients, and ensure that the center resources and services are relevant, timely, accurate, and effectively delivered;
- Provide inputs to the Director on the organization, administration and operation of the center in accordance with the Virginia SBDC Network?s Policy and Procedures Manual;
- Monitor all SBDC organizational matters and recommend timely actions to the Director. Serve, when needed, as backup to the Director in the day-to-day activities of the center;
- Collaborate with the Director in marketing and promoting the activities of the center;
- In coordination with the Director, conduct and maintain active liaison with county, regional, and federal economic development programs. Incumbent also maintains active liaison with volunteer networks including Mason Venture Mentors and ?Friends of Mason Enterprise Center?;
- Assist the Director in identifying and raising funds to support center operations and to fund innovation and expansion of the center?s service offering;
- Perform other duties as requested by the Director;
- Demonstrate office and computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office and SBDC MIS /database) and project management skills (Microsoft Project or equivalent);
- Demonstrate ability to assume responsibility, work without direct supervision, exercise initiative and judgment, and make decisions within the broad scope of assigned authority.
Reports to the Director and will be evaluated on at least an annual basis. Meetings and discussions with clients and prospective clients are performed without direct supervision or requirement for prior approval. Works with other Mason SBDC staff in a team atmosphere throughout all phases of client assistance.
Supervision Exercised:
Supervises volunteer counselors, administrative employees, and student interns.
Minimum Qualifications:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. A B.A./B.S. degree in a business discipline with a strong preference for a master?s degree in business.
