Performs a wide variety of responsible office and clerical duties; does related work as required. Essential Duties
This position works in the Historic Preservation and Museum Services section primarily as a museum collections database specialist. Essential duties include compilation of artifact information, creation of object files, and data entry into Past Perfect, a museum collection management database. Position scans historical documents and photographs artifacts for inclusion in the database. Creates reports for retrieval of information from the database. Updates database records by documenting movement of artifacts, current location, and artifact condition. Also assists with collection management and registrar duties, including annual site inventories and ongoing inventory of artifacts in storage, cataloging of artifacts, conducting formal artifact condition checks, processing donation paperwork, and proper housing of artifact! s. Applicant must have a strong knowledge of museum collection! terminology and collection management documentation methods; be aware of standard museum practices; be well versed in safe object handling and archival storage methods; understand collection environmental concerns; be familiar with photodocumentation and document scanning; and have experience in data entry in a collection management database.
Considerable knowledge of spelling and punctuation, English grammar, arithmetic, telephone usage, use of dictionary; skill in the use of a personal computer and familiarity with commonly used business software; knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment; ability to understand and communicate the policies, procedures and services of the department, division, or program; ability to keep moderately complex records; ability to make computations with speed and accuracy; ability to research files, proofread, write legibly, follow directions, read and organize information; tact, courtesy, and ability to establis! h and maintain good working relationships with other employees and the public; flexibility. Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school and three (3) years of related clerical experience; OR , any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Additional Information
Historic Preservation and Museum Services indentifies, interprets, collects, and preserves historical and cultural resources in Henrico County. Historic sites owned by the County include a 19th century living history farm, an 1825 tavern, a 1902 schoolhouse, a 1920s gas station, an Art Deco theatre, a depression-era farm, and a civil war headquarters. The museum collection consists of over 40,000 artifacts, including furniture, textiles, military items, agricultural equipment, books, maps, manuscript collections, folk art, and archaeology.
