General Maintenance Technician

Description: York County, VA is in need of General Maintenance Technician right now, this position will be placed in Virginia. Performs skilled and semi-skilled electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work to building systems to include lighting, wiring, troubleshooting, making repairs and general maintenance. Assists with! skilled carpentry work as required to include framing, trim work, and other building maintenance tasks such as installing partitions, doors, roofing and painting. Assists with the installation of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and structural systems. Responsible for a variety of preventive maintenance tasks involving the inspection and maintenance of HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems as well as structural aspects such as roofs, doors, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent supplemented by vocational course work, and 2-4 years experience doing increasingly skilled trades work in one or more areas.
Requires thorough knowledge of common terminology, tools, and practices of the carpentry, plumbing and electrical trades.
Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and other drawings and have the ability to plan projects to estimate time and materials required.
Possession of a valid driver's ! license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Safet! y shoes required.
Requires an acceptable criminal background check.

This position is considered an Essential Position (County designation as ALPHA) which requires the employee to report to work during inclement and extreme weather conditions, often outside normally scheduled work hours. In addition, this position must be available to respond to calls for service after normal working hours on a rotational basis.
Physical Demands:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including mechanics' tools, carpenters' tools, electrical tools, plumbing tools, etc. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to lift and move motors and other equipment weighing between 50-100 pounds. Routinely climbs stairs and ladders. Crawling must be done when working in attic spaces. There is a great deal of bending, ! stooping, standing, and walking.
