Description: Hampton Affiliates is currently interviewing Planer right now, this position will be placed in Virginia. More details about this position opportunity kindly read the description below. GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
A Utility must have a basic knowledge of the Planer department and its various functions. Work safely and maintain a safe work environment for self and others. Check lumber lengths to insure s! pecifications are met and check product sizes on a routine basis. Participate in preventative maintenance. Will be required to cover absentees, breaks, vacations, etc

Experience/Skills Required:
EXPERIENCE OR TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • Ability to operate a forklift in a safe and productive manner
  • Must be PIT certified or attain certification
  • Able to operate various machine centers
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate all planer machine centers.
  • Must be a certified grader or show the ability to be trained.
Preferred Skills:
JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Work in a safe manner by complying with all company safety policies to include utilizing all required PPE.
  • Perform routine quality checks
  • Check lumber sizes, quality and moisture content
  • Must understand difference of grades
  • Good hand/eye coordination and manual ! dexterity
  • Good communication skills through written, ! speech, & hearing
  • Capable of walking around catwalks, conveyors, and uneven surfaces
  • Capable of using power saw, air wrench, shovel, and other hand tools in a safe manner
  • Operate various machine centers to process quality lumber and to keep pace with the mill flow
  • Operate all operator controls, monitors, and computers necessary to perform general job description
  • Recognize and communicate quality and/or size problems to supervisor and/or fellow teammates in a timely manner and see that they are corrected to the best of your ability
  • Check product lengths produced at the trimmer regularly
  • Follow Company lockout, safety, and work standards
  • Must attend any training necessary to upgrade performance
  • Operate machinery in a safe manner so injury does not occur to operator or any employee in the area
  • Notify supervisor of any problems that arise during the shift
  • Assist maintenance person! nel during breakdowns
  • Must train any employees as assigned by supervisor
  • Must work overtime as necessary
  • Able to assist on other jobs during break rotation.
  • Have limited mechanical knowledge and experience.
  • Must clean-up mill when not in production.
  • Fill in for graders on line as needed.
