SGT seeks an Aviation Systems Test Engineer to join NASA’s Airspace and Traffic Operations Simulation (ATOS) research system development team in support of NASA’s Joint Planning D! evelopment Office (JPDO) Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) initiative. The ATOS simulation system is used to conduct research into the feasibility of advanced Air Traffic Management (ATM) concepts. Specific duties and responsibilities include: the development, unit test and integration of aircraft and simulation support software packages, and creation of aircraft flight scenarios that make up the ATOS system. Software packages are typically developed for the Windows Operating System environment, using one or more of the following technologies: Visual C++, OpenGL, and HLA and can range from modeling an avionic component to a complete aircraft subsystem. The candidate will join a lean Agile development process in a fast paced research environment and will work with NASA and Contractor Subject Matter Experts in support of Modeling & Simulation, Aircraft Aerodynamics Modeling, Data Analysis, and Air Traffic Management research. This position will require a bac! kground in aviation flight operations, flight routes, software! development, and systems software integration and test engineering. Experience in Air Traffic Controller operations is desired.
Position Requirements
Required Skills
- BS Degree (or equivalent experience) and minimum 8 years related aviation and/or software test engineering and development experience that includes a strong understanding and background in distributed systems applications and object-oriented design technologies.
- Pilot experience flying commercial or general aviation aircraft.
- Familiarity with aircraft flight planning and routes, airspace sectors, general flight operations.
- Experience with Visual C++, the ability to analyze existing code, software output, and perform general software maintenance duties.
- Ability to interact with stakeholders, internal users, customers, and partners to fulfill research software requirements and to effectively communicate software development and test status.
- Good technical writing experience to include test procedures, operations procedures, user manuals/guides, training materials, training videos, web page development.
- Windows 7/XP and Linux Operating Systems.
Should have additional experience in one or more of the following domains:
- Modeling & Simulation
- Software development Life Cycle processes
- Aerospace Engineering
- Technical writing experience, creation of training materials (documents and videos)
- Aircraft Aerodynamics, 6 Degrees-Of-Freedom Modeling
- Trajectory Prediction, Flight Management Systems
- JPDO NextGen ConOps and Architecture
- Understanding of the NASA environment, experience working with NASA
- Aviation Weather products
- Air Traffic Controller experience
- Knowledge of Air Traffic Management technologies and systems
- Software development to include:
-- Distributed model! ing and simulation computing systems
-- Perl Scripting, JAVA, XML
-- Open GL and/or High Level Architecture (HLA) Run-Time Infrastructure (RTI)
