Job Summary:
This is a senior engineering position into the production support of distributed Operating Systems Support (OSS)! . OSS provides critical infrastructure services to business functions and mission critical financial applications. It supports enterprise multi-platform environments that requires disciplines following ITIL methodologies. The OSS technical discipline includes Solaris, AIX, Linux, Symantec/Veritas and associated infrastructure management and security software, tools and utilities. OSS senior engineer provides engineering and support of enterprise infrastructure services and management. This includes engineering for effective and efficient server provisioning, configuration, management and performance to optimize server and OS services to business, ensure security and controls. Senior engineer works with minimum supervision, conduct technology research, recommends solutions and designs, and provides technical direction and mentoring to advanced level and junior staff. Successful support requires authoritative subject matter expertise in the areas of Operating Systems administ! ration, high availability configuration, performance tuning, m! onitoring/alerting, Antivirus, intrusion detection, storage, backup, disaster recovery, and broad experience of IT technology including inter networking protocols, encryption, security, firewalls, database and application. In addition, a strong, in-depth appreciation of business operations and processes is required OSS Technician works with minimum supervision and may provides mentoring and training to junior staff. The individual performs production support tasks including health check, hardware and software maintenance, configurations, and troubleshooting. Successful support requires a strong, in-depth appreciation of business operations and processes.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and Solution Engineering:
Design and engineer solutions for new application/service integration to the production environment, and to improve infrastructure services, management and security effectiveness and efficiency. Leads workgroups which eval! uate, recommend design, build, test and coordinate the implementation of enterprise hardware/software solutions. Participates in project activities to support major infrastructure or application projects. Collaborates with other infrastructure components in support of open systems environments. Provides subject matter expertise and consulting services, recommends designs, configurations, hardware/software products and solutions.
Production Support:
Performs infrastructure support tasks, including daily health check, implementation of customer requests, documenting configurations and procedures. Participates in daily support of the infrastructure by conducting timely follow-up and resolution of problem tickets. Possesses an increasingly broad knowledge of infrastructure management and security technology through class room training, on-the-job training and independent research.
Problem Solving:
Provide 24x7 on-call support on a rotatin! g basis. Provide technical leadership and direction in resolving time-c! ritical and complex problems by leading all necessary parties (customer, client, operations, application support etc.) to investigate and resolve problems as they occur. Recommends and implements the required remediation steps in accordance with change policies and service level agreements. Leads post problem analysis, investigates root cause, documents and implements preventive measures and improvement.
System Maintenance:
Develop/test/document process and procedures of hardware, firmware and software upgrades and patches to maintain technology currency. Train/mentor technicians on the procedures, and validate the results. Implement changes and remediate problems and vulnerabilities to meet the needs of customers while maintaining a stable environment.
Project Support:
Participates in project activities to support major infrastructure or application projects. Participates in workgroups which evaluate, recommend design, build, test an! d coordinate the implementation of enterprise hardware/software solutions. Works closely with other infrastructure components in support of open systems environments. Provide consulting services, recommends designs, configurations, hardware/software products and solutions.
Administrative Support:
Provides advice and recommendation to customers by understanding requirements and engineering for solutions. Advises them on best practices and to implement the necessary changes to address their business needs. Works with internal/external auditors and oversight boards, panels or groups to provide data and information for security reviews and to maintain proper levels of access control. Participates in product/technology risk management process.
Position Requirements:
Education & Experience:
College degree, preferably in Computer Science or Information Systems, 7+ years IT experience including 2+ years in senior or lead technical ! positions, 3+ year working in medium to large data centers and enterpri! se environment as Systems administrator or an equivalent combination of education and job-related experience equal to 4 - 7 years.
Unix Support: Certified Solaris , AIX, Redhat Linux and/or Veritas Administrator is preferred.
