Camp Arts/Crafts Specialist

Location: Richardsville Virginia

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This position summary should not be interpreted as all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position. The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this position summary.

Plans, coordinates, and participates in a variety of arts and craft activities for the campers; organizes activities and promotes participation;

Monitors the arts and crafts activities to ensure safety of participants; instructs campers and staff in proper methods for operating tools; monitors and directs behavior at all times to ensure compliance with camp rules;

Assist counselors with the development of art kits for use by cabins;

Maintains accountability and inventory of all arts an! d craft tools, materials, and supplies; orders or purchases ne! eded supplies and materials as approved;

Ensures the arts and crafts area and supplies are clean and free from debris at all times. Identifies potential hazards and responds appropriately and in a timely manner;

Secure and lock all arts/crafts equipment and supplies after each session;

Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards;
Trains other camp staff to lead, chaperone and monitor arts and crafts activities.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions;

Sit with camper tables during meals and serve as a table monitor when needed;

Keep personal living quarters neat, clean and ready for inspection;

Be available to participate and assist wi! th camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT:
Carving Tools
Knives
Glue Guns
Paint

Required Experience:
Knowledge of arts and craft techniques;

Ability to perform live saving techniques, C.P.R. and first aid procedures in emergency situations;

Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with children;

Ability to communicate effectively with campers and camp staff;

Ability to ensure the safety of arts and craft participants;

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff;

Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques;

Visual and ! auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other haz! ards related to the activity;

Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers;

Ability to meet attendance requirements;

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Some physical requirements of the Arts/Crafts Specialist position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate arts/crafts equipment and activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility availab! le. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

Required Education:
Two years’ experience performing and coordinating arts and crafts projects preferred, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
CPR and First Aid Certification

Compensation:
$300/week

Additional Comments:
Must be willing to commit to the following dates: June 7 - August 7, 2012
